Sarah Williams is a 20 year old athletic training student at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, USA. During the summer of 2016, Sarah interned abroad in Peru and participated in our Nutrition & Natural Medicine program!
What is your favorite memory from your time abroad? The immersion in Peru was incredible. I got to surround myself with so many awesome people and learn so much about the country. I feel like I really became a part of the culture there which is hard to do in a lot of study abroad programs.
What advice would you give future Linguistic Horizons students? Go. From the culture, to the sites, to the knowledge I gained in my field, and the wonderful people that you have taking care of you, it is such an amazing experience. I would recommend this program to anyone looking to go abroad!
How did your experience abroad impact your life? Interning abroad really opened my eyes to how much more is out there. So often we get so caught up in our lives and studies and lose sight of how big the world is and how much knowledge and understanding it has to offer if we just broaden our spectrum and accept it.
What was your internship experience like? I got to learn new things and solidify information relevant to my career every day that I was there. My internship really helped me move forward in my field of study.
How was your Spanish when you started the program versus when you left? My Spanish improved tremendously. I went from being able to get what I needed, to being able to have full conversations with people, all in 2 months. People aren’t lying when they say that immersion is the key to learning a language!
Anything else you’d like to share? This trip was life-changing and I think that anyone, regardless of their personality, would experience the same!
