Meet Magdalena Devan from University of Findlay! This summer, Magdalena will be joining our Summer Study Spanish & Intern in Spain program! She will be dedicating 5 weeks to studying and fully immersing herself in the Spanish language followed by 5 more weeks interning at a veterinary clinic and continuing to study Spanish. We look forward to welcoming her in A Coruña, Spain!

Tell us more about you. “I am a junior currently studying Animal Science/Pre-Veterinary Medicine at the University of Findlay in Ohio. I was also a part of the English Equestrian Program for two years, and even brought my own horse with me to college all the way from California! Outside of school and horses I enjoy traveling, spending time with my family and friends, and love all things Disney.”

Magdalena loves Disney.

What motivated you to apply for this program? “I was drawn to the immersive quality of this program that will allow me to practice the Spanish language in a practical setting and experience the unique culture of Spain. In addition, the opportunity to intern at a veterinary clinic and gain more experience is something I greatly look forward to.”

What motivated you to choose Spain? “I chose Spain so that I could greatly improve my Spanish through real-world situations. In addition, Spain has been a country I have always wanted to travel to; and, I am excited to learn more about the culture and be there long enough to truly enjoy all it has to offer.”

What organizations are you involved in on campus? “I am an officer for UF Birding Club, on the Fundraising Committee for UF 4 Paws for Ability Club, and a member of Delta Tau Alpha Agricultural Honors Society, TriBeta Biological Honors Society, and UF Pre-Vet Club. I am also on a research team at my university studying behavior in isopods!”

What are your future career goals? “My goal is to continue my education through undergrad and then vet school to earn a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Afterwards, I would love to work at a mixed animal practice or in the equine medicine field.”

What are some of the places/things on your bucket list?
“A few items on my bucket list are to visit Rome in Italy, swim with dolphins, and see the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.”

What is your proudest accomplishment? “My proudest accomplishment was raising a guide dog puppy for Guide Dogs of America-Tender Loving Canines my junior and senior year of high school. The puppy I raised, Magic, went on to graduate as a service dog for a veteran. It was such a rewarding experience getting to watch this puppy that you loved and cared for go on to impact someone else’s life in such a profound way.”
