Meet Sophie Thormann from Westfield, Indiana! This summer, Sophie will be interning through Linguistic Horizons in France!
Tell us more about you:
Hi everyone! My name is Sophie Thormann, and I am currently a sophomore at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee! I am majoring in Secondary Education and English, with minors in French and Teaching Linguistically Diverse Learners. I love traveling, reading, writing, and spending time with my friends!
What is your main motivation for participating in the program?
My family is French; so, it’s important to me that I understand the language and culture of France. I’m hoping this internship will help me sharpen my language skills; and, I’m hoping to have a lot of opportunities for personal growth as I live and work abroad!
What organizations are you involved in on campus?
I work for the Office of Housing as both a Resident Advisor and a Front Desk Assistant. I volunteer with, and tutor, elementary-aged students through two programs called Youth Encouragement Services and Brighter Days. I am the president of Circle K International, involved in theater, a member of University Catholic, and on the club sailing team!
What are some of the places/things on your bucket list?
Most of my bucket list involves traveling! I want to visit all 50 states and at least six continents. I would love to backpack through Europe. Essentially, I want to see as much of the world as I can!
What are your future career goals?
I plan on being a high school English teacher, with a potential focus on English Language Learners
What is your favorite quote?
“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.” – Saint Augustine
What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment is probably getting into Vanderbilt University!
