Holly Carton, Dublin Institute of Technology Major: Architecture Hometown: Dublin, Ireland
Meet Holly Carton! Linguistic Horizons is pleased to introduce recent graduate and current intern, Holly! Miss Carton arrived to Peru for our Internship in Peru program in February and will be interning through most of the summer. Holly graduated with a degree in architecture last year and is now gaining practical experience working on same rather innovative design projects in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Holly arrived with zero experience in the Spanish language; yet, she has been steadily progressing in the language since she arrived.
How would you describe your internship in Peru so far?
I’m loving my internship. It’s completely mad! My mentor is so full of enthusiasm for what we’re doing; so, it’s easy and fun to design! I was the most nervous to start work; but, at the moment I’m really loving it. It’s so different from the work I’d be doing at home – so much better! I’m actually designing things that are getting built right next to me!
What are some of the places/things on your bucket list?
My bucket list is running out of room! I want to go to the Arctic, Asia, and basically everywhere! But Europe… been their done that! I think my next destination, other than a masters that I hope to do in North Europe, is going to be Africa. I’m not sure how or when; but, I want to visit that general continent!
What is your proudest accomplishment?
I think my proudest accomplishment is probably finishing (finally) my five long year degree!
What motivated you to choose Peru?
I wanted to go to South America for an internship; and, I thought Linguistic Horizons was the best one! Especially for something so specific as architecture!
What is your favorite quote?
“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.”
It’s by Oscar Wilde. I love most of his quotes
